According to local jeweller Berry’s Jewellers, a recent report shows that 20 per cent of Brits spend more than £3,000 on an engagement ring, and for the perfect proposal, millennials believe in spending £4,102, with 74 per cent saying they’d be put off if their partner proposed to them in public.

Proposals aren’t the only thing couples are spending more on. Research shows that spending per couple on wedding bands is also on the rise, with the average cost now standing at £1,000.

In addition to engagement and wedding rings, couples spend another £1,000 on average on wedding day jewellery, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets and hairpieces, as well as gifts for the bridal party.

With average costs on the rise, the experts at Berry’s Jewellers have advice on how to make the most of your wedding jewellery to ensure you wear it again. Ruth Burnell, the Jewellery and Diamond Buying Manager at Berry’s Jewellers, comments: “We have a team of in-house designers, so if brides have a particular style or design in mind, we can make these come to life with a bespoke piece to suit any wedding dress style. Many brides come to us with pieces that have been passed down through generations of the family, so we can alter these and create a bespoke piece to suit the bride’s style while keeping the piece authentic.”

In terms of choosing the right style that can last a lifetime, Ruth tells us, “When choosing your bridal jewellery, it is not only essential to consider the style of your wedding dress and the overall theme of the wedding, but to also choose pieces that will make you feel beautiful and confident on your wedding day as well as being versatile enough to allow you to wear them time and time again.”

“Looking at specific pieces, brides tend to choose single diamond or pearl and diamond pieces to complement their dresses, keeping it quite classy and traditional. Berry’s OPEIA Nova collection, which was designed by our in-house designer Emily Holdich, is a super elegant, modern collection and hugely popular with brides looking for a timeless look, with intricate detail to make it feel extra special.”
